Dancing On The Ceiling

Lionel Richie All Night Long Tour

Saturday 28th February

Manchester Arena

Last night myself and my mum were two very lucky ladies. We had the privilege of watching the master that is Lionel Richie in concert.

After booking the tickets some 6 months ago for the All Night Long World Tour, the night couldn't come quick enough and we were both eager to get out and have a good boogie and boy did we do that. I burnt some calories let me tell you.

I have been lucky over the years when it comes to concerts, I have seen some of the best artist in the business but there is something so special about Lionel that I had to book to see him again.
If you haven't been to a concert or missed out on getting tickets, I thought I would post a few pictures of my night for you to enjoy.

Apologies for the quality of the video - this was taken on my phone and looks much better viewed on there than on a computer - sowwwy!

Lionel attracts a mixture of ages which I think is great when it comes to a concert. From start to finish the arena was buzzing, he made sure that every age group was catered for. Sign of a true professional.

He really did have the crowd in his back pocket from the first note to the last chorus of “We Are The World” some two hours later.
Those calories I mentioned earlier were burning hard by the end and they needed to especially after I was rather naughty and treated myself a foot long hotdog AND candle floss *woops*

Speaking about bringing his tour to Europe Lionel said: I can’t wait to get back to the UK. The audiences are always so great and I always have an incredible time when I’m in the United Kingdom. The show feels like a great big sing-along most nights so I’m looking forward to singing along with the people of the UK again!”

It was more than just music concert, there was a lot of laughter to be had, Lionel is one very funny man.

If you haven't had the opportunity to see him live and you ever get the chance to, please do, he really is so superb and myself and my mum had such a fun night.

Here's to many more years of dancing on the ceiling.

Long Live Lionel

Friday 27 February 2015

I did it, I'm going to be a part of history....

Come September/October this year (2015) England is set to host The Rugby World Cup and I am going to be there and I am super dooper excited to tell you about a little journey I have been on to secure my place in history in what is set to be a memorable 2 months of sport.

(I'm going to be updating my blog at each part of my journey right up until the big kick off and throughout the tournament and I'd love you to follow me and see what I get up to)

***
I'm not too sure what triggered my love for sports. What I do know is that I always preferred being outside running around rather than being sat behind a desk.  I'd have a go at anything, Hockey, Netball, Athletics, Tennis, you name it I was there at the front of the queue itching to get going.

From high school I went on to college to study Sports Therapy and Sports Development and Fitness, it was either that or letting my creative juices flow by studying Beauty.  After MUCH deliberation I decided to try something different, something that all my friends weren't doing, I wanted to branch out and spread my wings and so I signed up to study Sports Therapy.
Whilst at college I took a Saturday job my local Football Club in the club shop which grew my love for Football and an industry I have had 11 years working within and have loved it very much.

Where has my love for Rugby come from?

During my college Sports Therapy course I was lucky enough to put the skills I was learning into practice. The college organised a trip to a local Rugby club so that we could use or magic hands on the boys!! How lucky was I right?!
Hunky Rugby boys in shorts and I got to get my hands on them Ha Ha.
TBH I didn't feel lucky at the time, I was incredibly nervous. A team of strapping lads all fired up after a match was a little intimidating it has to be said, top that with their good looks and I was a nervous wreck.

Before getting my hands on the boys, we watched them play their match and I'll tell you now I had no idea what was going on. The rules were going over my head and all I was thinking was don't give me the captain he is far too good looking I would crumble if I had to massage him ha ha.

I thoroughly enjoyed the match, the was a real buzz around the place and I thought I'd love to watch a professional match and luckily at that the time, the six nations was on TV so I was Ireland take on Scotland which I loved! My love for the game grew from there.

Rugby World Cup 2015

Fast forward to February 2014. I was reading about England being chosen to host the Rugby World Cup and the need for people to apply to work during the tournament a team of people to be known as 'The Pack' Rugby's answer to the Games makers of the Olympics.
After watching the Olympics 2012 in London everyday it was on and witnessing the amazing fun the Games makers had, I to apply and so I did.
The process began with an online form where I had to write a bit about myself and any experience I had that I felt I could bring to 'The Pack'.
Whilst not having any experience working in Rugby, I do have many years of working in Football and large stadiums which I was able to link quite well to Rugby.
I completed the first stage of the application process  form and off it went.  I had such an excitement about me when writing the application and more so once I had sent it off. Normally when applying for anything i.e. a job I never feel so excited, I'm normally a wreck with nerves but not with this, maybe it was because it wasn't a paid job that I needed and so the pressure was off a little and more something that was going to be fun and if I didn't get it I couldn't still watch the games on TV, I dunno, but I was rather excited about the whole process.
Months went by and on 30th July 2014 I received this email...

Woweee I got an interview!!
Now the world 'Interview' sends me into a panic. It's a word that should be banned from the English language Ha Ha, its everything not fun about any application process however I was chuffed to bits to get to the next stage that I didn't dwell to much about it.

Interview Day (Try Out)

My Try Out was to be held at MediaCityUK on 6th September 2014 some 2 months after receiving the 'Congratulations you been selected to attend a Try Out' email'.
MediaCity btw if you don't know is home to the BBC, ITV, Coronation Street, Blue Peter and many more big shows and to go to where these big programmes are filmed was quite exiting.
I arrived in Manchester and signed in and hung around in the waiting area with 5 other successful applicants, all wearing Rugby shirts except me, which threw me a little, I started to panic inside that I wasn't showing me love for the game like the people around me were.  I was wearing my shamrock necklace though -maybe they'd see my elegance is to Ireland ha ha.
We were all asked to follow one of the reps to an area where we were to have our photograph taken which unbeknown to me would be used on our passes if we were successful.
The rep asked if anybody wanted to go first and there was silence. Oh this is a great start, nobody is speaking and nobody wants to be the first up. So I put my hand up and stepped forward.  I thought that this would show to the reps that I wasn't afraid to put myself forward and I also wasn't sure if the interview process was from the moment you stepped foot in the building and I still don't know if going first was a plus or not.
Photo taken and on we went to a small area which displayed Rugby memorabilia which included trophies, medals and used Rugby balls, all fascinating to look at.
This area I think was designed to calm any nerves people may had and to integrate as a team.  There was a cool section in this area which was set up so you could have a go at throwing a Rugby ball into small holes cut out in the wall. There were five balls on the ground spaced out at different distances.
I watched a few of the guys in my group have a go at it and one clearly plays the sport as he got all 5 in!...Show off ;0)
I had to have a go, I went from the front, so closest to the next going back and I missed the first one (great start!) missed the second and the third haha but I somehow pulled it back and in ball 4 and 5 went wooohooo. ''SIGN ME UP'' I shout. As if I managed to slot the furthest ball away in on my first go at the challenge....get me, fluke or pure talent I don't care it put me in a good mood to go into my interview.

We were taken to watch a short video set to inspire us ahead of our interviews which were to follow straight after.
The interview booths were all set up and I went into the first booth and was met by a jolly lady which instantly made me feel calm.
The good thing about the whole application process is that at every stage of the process you are met by volunteers, the team who were doing the interviews were volunteers themselves, I really like this element.
The lady I had was so lovely, she really made me feel like I was meeting up with an old friend and not there to be grilled.
I cant remember many of the questions I was actually asked and I think this is because of how the interviewee was with me and I'd like to think everybody else interviewed felt the same.
The next stage was to head over to an area set out to like a Rugby dressing room which was a cool idea. In this area there were lots of pieces of clothing laid out. We were asked to try on the clothes and record what sizes fit us best. We were then told that the clothes were samples of what was to be the selected uniform for the tournament. How exciting!!  I do hope the uniform is a tad better than the army coloured pieces I saw in front of me....style icon I would not be in these, I wish I had taken a photo to show you, they were not pleasant haha.
So that was it, a few hours of fun and an interview later, my Try Out was complete and I was off home.  Just before I left I was told that the Try Outs were being held until the end of the year and we'd not hear anything until January 2015.....2015!! boy did that seem a long time away. Soon came around though and o
On 16th January, 2 days before my birthday I was given an early birthday present....this little beauty of an email arrived.

OMG I DIT IT!!!

I cant believe it, I am so super excited and more so proud that I have been chosen especially to learn that 20,000 people applied and I along with 5,999 other lucky people are set to be a part of sporting history.

The next stage is coming up in May when all 6,000 successful volunteers will meet at a central venue for the first time for a bit of a welcome day, how exciting.
I plan to blog about the day and as mentioned at the beginning of this post I will take you on the journey with me and hopefully you too will feel like you are with me every step on the way.

Until next time...

''Lets go to the beach each, lets get away''....

Ola!

I'm sure we all have those special little places we love to visit, you know the places that make you go all warm and fuzzy inside and put that big cheesy grin on your face, well I'm no different and today I went and paid a cheeky visit to one of my favourite spots.... Southport!

For anybody who doesn't know Southport, its a tranquil seaside town in the North West of England.

Now don't get me wrong, its no Barbados but its cute and I like cute.

I hadn't planned to go there today, especially as when I woke up the rain was hammering against my window. I had a little peep outside and to say the sky was grey was an understatement. If you read my previous post, 50 Shades of Grey (Literally) sprung to mind.
I'm not a lover of grim so I turned back over and went back to sleep, hoping if I wished hard enough the sun be out when I woke. Luckily after a cheeky an hour and a half nap I woke and my prayers had been answered! I peered again through the curtains and there it was, shining right at me, my best friend and yours, THE SUN. Not only was the sun out to play the sky was bluer than blue...no clouds I screech, NO CLOUDS!!
 Hip Hip Horay!!!
It seems like weeks have passed since I last saw the sun, let alone clear blue skies - A very welcomed sight indeed.

On such stunning days like this a trip to the coast is always my first thought but not always possible to make happen. I definitely didn't think I'd be going today, especially as I had so many little bit jobs to get done along with a Physiotherapy appointment early afternoon and knowing the British weather as I do, we are lucky if the sun remains out for a full day, ha ha!

The sun instantly puts me in a good mood so I thought as I had completed m boring jobs and had a very productive appointment with my Physiotherapist on my route back home I'd take a wee detour and see if a top I've been after for a little while was in still in stock and as the shop I needed was only 10/15 minutes away from where I was it made sense.  The detour also would take me through the countryside which on a crisp sunny day, always looks so pretty.
Green fields, sun and blue skies is something I would pay money to see if I wasn't so lucky to have it around me for free.

......Top purchased and I'm back en route home.
Traffic started to build thick and fast and if there is one thing I cant stand, it's traffic, but luckily as I had nowhere else I needed to go, sitting in a bit of traffic didn't seem so bad, the sun was shining after all.

Turns out the traffic was the start of a diversion! ''oh what, nooo come on, really?'' I whine!  Road works on any country lane are never a good idea but on the plus side I got to appreciate the great British countryside. So on I go through lanes I'd never been on before passing some lovely scenery.  I saw a sign up ahead that giving me a few directional options. Turn right and I'd be around 20 minutes away from my house, turn left and I would end up in the one place I didn't think I would see today, yup you've guessed it....SOUTHPORT!! woooooo there was only one thing for it, I had to turn left.
I had no idea this route would take me this way but boy was I glad it did.

A few minutes or so later I arrived in Southport and I drove along the coast road. Anybody who has been to Southport will tell you that the coast road in is quite long and I swear it is the bumpiest road you'll probably ever drive on, but it's part of the fun.
If you peer into cars you will always see kids over exaggeratingly bobbing up and down, I cant help but giggle.
The coast road has also been known over the years to be used by women trying to bring on labour (yes its that bumpy).

I just love looking out to sea even if today I needed binoculars to actually see it as the tide was very much out. On a good day like today you can see all the way over to Blackpool, I could just about see the Blackpool Tower in the distance which was pretty cool.

How quirky are the street lights by the way, love them!

There a lots of weird and wonderful things to look at when you drive in an out of the town, like this little fella below.  A copper statue of golfer, situated on a roundabout no less.  He looks to be having lots of fun hitting many balls into the sea!

I decided to park up and have a little wander along the front, breathe in some sea air and just appreciate the wonderful sights around me, despite it being absolutely freezing and my hair being blown into my lipgloss (don't you just love it when that happens :0/) I really enjoyed the walk.
I was not dressed for the occasion at all, well I would have been if the temperature was what you'd expect at the height of summer - little ballet pumps seemed ideal for pottering about this morning, this afternoon, they were a fashion disaster ha ha.  It was too nice a day not to embrace the views so my feet had to suffer. Well worth it though, even if I am still thawing out now.

What is it about a beach walk that lets your mind take you elsewhere? All my troubles seem to disappear and life seems so much better by the sea.
I am lucky that I live so close to the coast that I have a few options if ever want to escape for a few hours and have a wander by the sea.

It really is a little haven and I appreciate it all the more as I get older.
The really is something for everybody no matter what your age.
For the gossips kings/queens, there are plenty of cute little coffee shops for catching up with friends.
For the party animals/socialites amongst us, the town over the years has become one the places to be seen - many new trendy bars have opened and some of the snazziest restaurants to dine in have been built. One even being owned by Ex England and current Liverpool FC player Stephen Gerrard.

There are plenty of things for the family to enjoy.
A beach resort isn't complete without an arcade and carousel and Southport offers both.
There is also a water sports centre recently built on the stunning lake.

Why not check out what other little treasures Southport has to offer - http://www.visitsouthport.com/things-to-do/southport-watersports-p92083

My trip to Southport was short but very sweet and I look forward to going back very soon.

50 Shades of Meh!

Recently I took a little road trip to Birmingham to visit one of my good friends Louisa for a few days.
Louisa moved to Brum to start a new job and I haven't really seen her since she moved so what better way to catch up then spending some quality time in her new home.

We decided whilst I was there that we would pay a cheeky visit to the local cinema to see 50 Shades of Grey.

There has been a lot of hype surrounding the books and the much anticipated film that we just had to go and check it out for ourselves.

Out of the two of us, I'm the one that hasn't read all 3 of the books, I read the first but wasn't that blown away by it and as a result books 2 and 3 have been left to catch dust on the shelf.

As this was the first of the 3 books to be made into a film I was interested to see what the filmmakers were going to do with it.  After all, the books sold millions of copies around worldwide - the film therefore had a lot to live up to.

Another reason I wanted to watch the film was that the leading man Jamie Dornan (aka Christian Grey) is from my hometown Holywood in Northern Ireland so any reason to cheer on a hometown boy - I'm there!

Whilst Jamie wasn't quite how my mind pictured Christian Grey looking, he was more like Christian was to look like than the original casting of Charlie Hunnam.  I just cant get my head around this casting.

I don't know about you but my Christian is more like one of these delightful specimens...

But I am more than happy to perv on Jamie so life is good!

So I have my obligatory cinema slush purchase in one hand and ticket in the other and I'm ready. Let's see what the fuss is about....

Tango Ice Blast On Tumblr

...125 minutes later

So what did you think I hear you cry!

''It was about as erotic as an advert for a Pottery Barn'' - Peter Travers.
I'd agree 100%, it was all too tame for me, nowhere enough sex! There were more scenes of Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) biting her bloody lip and chewing her pencil than there were sex scenes.

The film for me well and truly put the emphasis on the colour Grey.  It did leave me some what disappointed.

On the plus side Dakota Johnson it has to be said played the part of Anastasia very well so every cloud.

One good thing to come out of watching the film is that I fell in love with a super doper new tune by Ellie Goulding -'Love Me Like You Do' and as a result Ellie got another download of said song.

5 stars for Ellie!!!

As for the film, I'd give it a 3/5 - it was ok, nothing special.

 Will I watch the sequel?

Possibly, although if I do I wont be one of the first to see it - I'll wait for the DVD!
If reports are to be believed Jamie Dornan has quit the role as Christian so will there be a second film, we'll have to wait and find out!

Until next time...
